"You are exactly where you need to be in this moment… once you accept that, next steps become clearer."
It can become easy to get caught up in wishing things were different – in either your present or past experiences. And when times are challenging, it can be especially difficult to accept the idea that there is perfection within your present moment, even if you can't yet feel it.
Time spent judging your past, comparing your childhood, berating your choices, or simply wishing for something different, actually moves your attention in the wrong direction. It directs your energy towards fighting your present moment, rather than discovering new ideas, insights or guidance.
Thoughts of
'what if' or
'if only' actually pulls your creative and intuitive energy even deeper into the problem or undesired experience, rather than releasing you from it. These types of desires leave you believing that things
should be different, or even
could have been different, rather than allowing you to explore the possibility that your life is unfolding as needed.
Now none of this is to suggest that you should pretend that all is well, when it isn’t. Or that you need to avoid or ignore your desire for something other than what you are experiencing. However, when you can accept (or at least consider), that there may be a divine unfolding within where you are, it can become easier to see your next steps, discover insightful meanings, experience hidden blessings, or simply find ways to feel better about where you are.
So next time you find yourself in a battle with your own peace of mind over your current circumstances, try the following strategies:
- Remind yourself that this too shall pass.
- Consider past times when difficulties brought unforeseen opportunities or growth.
- Ask yourself questions such as "What more is there in this?", "How is this serving me that I can't yet see?" or "What hidden opportunities exist within this?".
- Resist the urge to use your problems as a reason to criticize or judge yourself.
- Try journaling, meditating or praying around the issue.
- Go for a walk and take some deep breathes to calm your body and mind.
When you are able to accept your present moment, rather than fight or resist what you are going through, within that surrender inner peace follows… and often also guidance.
